  1. Pete Townshend originally planned The Who Sell Out as a concept album of sorts that would simultaneously mock and pay tribute to pirate radio stations, complete with fake jingles and commercials linking the tracks. For reasons that remain somewhat ill defined, the concept wasn't quite driven to completion, breaking down around the middle of side two (on the original vinyl configuration).
  2. "The Who Sell Out was originally released as Track (mono), (stereo) on December 16, It reached #13 in the U.K. Released in the U.S. as Decca DL (mono), DL (stereo) on January 6, , it reached #/5(7).
  3. The Who Sell Out's pirate-radio concept goes south in the album's second half--the Who ran out of time before they could write enough faux commercials--but it still remains in many ways their best and most entertaining album. Pete Townshend and John Entwistle supply song after great song, and along with Keith Moon play them with power and focus/5().
  4. Released in a transparent jewelbox with 24 page booklet. Remixed and remastered at Revolution Studios. Sequenced on Sadie Hard Disk. "The Who Sell Out was originally released as Track (mono), (stereo) on December 16, /5(11).
  5. the who 'sell out' is,for me,their stand alone piece. this set includes plenty of bonus tracks that never appeared on the original, and is a much more cohesive album for it. probably the who's most experimental album, due to it's slightly psychedelic nature,if not in concept then in 'sounds'. as essential in any 's collection as can be. well worth the time and price/5().
  6. referencing The Who Sell Out, CD, Album, RE, Unofficial, SW very good sounding russian disc silver factory pressed with a great bonus track of the alternative mary an w/ shaky hand mix.
  7. In the US The Who Sell Out was released on 6 January (Decca DL [mono], DL [stereo]) followed by the CD (MCA MCAD) in the s and remastered CD (MCAD) in A Deluxe Edition was released in (Polydor ) on two CDs with the first CD including the original 13 tracks in stereo plus 17 bonus tracks. Disc Two consisted of the original 13 tracks in mono .
  8. Obviously Townshend recognised his own accomplishment on Sell Out and began working on the most ambitious recording in the history of rock music to date, Tommy, based largely on two of the tracks on Sell Out, I Can't Reach You, and Rael 1 and 2. Revisiting the early albums by the Who can be somewhat jarring for fans raised on the radio.
